HEIC, JPG, PNG or WebP · Up to 50 MB per file

How to use

  1. 1Add the photo you want to shrink. JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC all work.
  2. 2Check that the target reads 1 MB. You can type a different size if the form asks for something else.
  3. 3Press “Compress to 1 MB”. The page tries different quality levels for you and keeps the best one that fits.
  4. 4Download the result and check the size shown in the list.

Tips and limits

  • If you need the photo for print, compress a copy and keep the original. For screens, 1 MB is usually more than enough.
  • WebP gives a smaller file at the same quality, but pick JPG when the destination is a form or an older app.
  • Phones that shoot in HEIC are handled too: the photo is read and saved as JPG or WebP.

Compress Image to 1MB

One megabyte is the limit many forms, content management systems and mail setups use, and it is generous enough that most photos stay visually identical. This page opens the compressor with a 1 MB target applied, so a typical 3–6 MB phone photo only needs a gentle reduction in quality.

Because the allowance is large, the tool rarely has to touch the pixel dimensions: the picture keeps its full resolution and you simply get a lighter file. That makes this setting a good default when you are not sure what a site wants. If the upload still fails, try 500 KB or 200 KB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce an image to under 1 MB?

Add the image, keep the target at 1 MB and press compress. For most photos only the quality needs to drop slightly.

Will my photo lose resolution?

Normally not at 1 MB. The tool lowers quality first and shrinks the dimensions only when quality alone cannot reach the target.

How do I reduce the size of an image?

Add your image, lower the quality slider or type a target size, and press the button. A quality of 70–80% usually looks the same but is far smaller.

How do I compress an image to a specific size like 100 KB?

Switch to “To a target size”, type 100 and choose KB. The tool finds the best quality that keeps the file at or under that size.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.
