Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce the size of an image?

Add your image, lower the quality slider or pick a smaller maximum width, and press “Compress images”. A quality of 70–80% usually looks the same but is far smaller.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.

Does compressing remove location and camera data?

Yes. The compressed copy has its EXIF data removed, including GPS location and camera details, which is good for privacy. The photo still shows the right way up.

What if the compressed file is bigger than the original?

Then the tool keeps your original file and tells you it was already optimal, so you never end up with a larger image.

Which format gives the smallest files?

WebP is usually the smallest at the same quality, JPG is the most compatible for photos, and PNG is best for graphics with sharp edges or transparency.

Make your images smaller without losing quality

Large photos slow down websites, fill up your phone and get rejected by upload forms and email. This free image compressor reduces the file size of JPG, PNG and WebP images in seconds, straight from your browser. You can compress many images at once, choose the quality that suits you and shrink huge camera photos to a sensible width such as 1920 or 1280 pixels.

Because everything happens on your own device, your pictures are never uploaded anywhere, which matters for ID cards, documents and family photos. Compression also strips hidden metadata such as GPS coordinates and camera details, while keeping the photo correctly oriented. For every image you see the original size, the new size and the percentage saved, and if a file cannot be made smaller the original is kept. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it. When you are done, crop your photo, remove its background or turn it into a PDF with our other free tools.
