JSON formatter and validator

Paste JSON to format, minify or validate it, see the exact line of an error, browse it as a tree and convert it to YAML or CSV.

Your data never leaves your browser

Paste API responses and tokens safely: nothing is sent anywhere.

Tip: Ctrl/Cmd + Enter formats the text.

How to use

  1. 1Paste your JSON, drop a file, or load the sample.
  2. 2Press Format (Ctrl/Cmd + Enter) or Minify. Errors show their line and column.
  3. 3Switch to the tree view to search, collapse and copy the path of any value.

Common uses

  • Reading an API response

Paste a one-line response and format it to see its structure at a glance.

  • Finding a syntax error

See which line and column hold the stray comma, quote or bracket in a config file.

  • Preparing data

Convert an array of objects to CSV for a spreadsheet, or to YAML for a config.

  • Exploring big files

Open a large export in the tree view and search for the one key you need.

Tips and limits

  • JSON needs double quotes around keys and strings, no trailing commas and no comments. Those are the most common errors.
  • Sorting keys changes the order of properties, not their values, which makes two files easier to compare.
  • The tree view is switched off above 5 MB of output. Use the text view for very large results.
  • CSV conversion needs an array of objects. Nested values are written as JSON text inside the cell.

Format, check and explore JSON

Minified API responses are hard to read and a single missing comma can break a config file. Paste your JSON, drop a file, or load the sample, and the formatter checks it as you type. Press Format to indent it with 2 spaces, 4 spaces or tabs, Minify to remove all whitespace, and sort keys alphabetically at every level if you want a stable order. When the text is not valid, you see the exact line and column, a plain-language reason and the line highlighted in the editor.

The tree view lets you collapse and expand objects, search keys and values, and copy the path of any value, such as data.items[3].name. The same page converts JSON to YAML or YAML to JSON, turns an array of objects into CSV, and escapes or unescapes a string for use inside JSON. Large inputs run in a background worker, up to 20 MB. If you are inspecting tokens, decode them with the JWT decoder and compare two versions of a payload with the diff checker. A JWT payload is plain JSON, as explained in what a JWT is, and Base64 values inside JSON can be read with the Base64 tool.

Frequently asked questions

How do I format JSON?

Paste it in the input box and press Format, or Ctrl/Cmd + Enter. Choose 2 spaces, 4 spaces or tabs first.

How do I find the error in my JSON?

The error message shows the line and column, a short explanation and the line is highlighted in the editor.

Can I convert JSON to YAML or CSV?

Yes. Use JSON → YAML, YAML → JSON or JSON → CSV. CSV needs an array of objects.

Is it safe to paste sensitive JSON?

The formatter runs in your browser and sends nothing to a server, so API responses and configs stay on your device.

How big can the JSON be?

Up to 20 MB. Big inputs are processed in a background worker so the page stays responsive.

Does it support Arabic and emoji?

Yes. Unicode text is preserved exactly, and the editor always keeps code left to right.
