Common uses

  • Application portals

    Set a photo to the exact 600 × 600 or 413 × 531 pixels a form demands.

  • Instagram posts and stories

Turn a landscape photo into 1080 × 1350 or 1080 × 1920 without letting the app crop it for you.

  • Website and blog images

Reduce a 6000-pixel-wide camera photo to 1600 pixels so the page loads quickly.

  • Batch resizing

Scale a whole folder of photos to 50% in one go and download them as a ZIP.

Tips and limits

  • Making a picture larger than the original cannot add detail, so it will look softer. The tool warns you when that happens.
  • With the aspect ratio locked, editing the width updates the height (and the other way round). With several photos, the edited side is applied to each one and the other side follows its own shape.
  • Passport sizes assume 300 DPI. Always check the exact requirements of the office or site that will receive the photo.
  • Very large outputs are limited by your device. An iPhone can handle roughly 16 megapixels in one canvas; desktops allow much more.

Resize to exact pixels, a percentage or a ready-made size

Forms, shops and social networks ask for pictures in very specific sizes. Type an exact width and height in pixels, keep the aspect ratio locked so nothing is stretched, or scale the whole picture by a percentage. For common jobs there are ready-made sizes: square, portrait, landscape and story formats for Instagram, and 35 × 45 mm, 2 × 2 inch and 4 × 6 cm passport photos. Shortcut pages for Instagram sizes and passport photo sizes open with those lists ready.

When the shape of your photo is different from the size you pick, choose between filling the frame, which crops the edges, or fitting the whole picture inside and adding borders in a color you choose. The result line shows the exact output size before you press the button. For a light file as well as the right size, run the result through the image compressor; to cut out only part of the picture first, use the crop tool. The guide to reducing an image to 100 KB shows how the two work together.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to a specific size in pixels?

Add the image, choose “Pixels”, type the width or height you need and press “Resize images”. Keep the ratio locked to avoid stretching.

How do I resize a photo by percentage?

Choose “Percent” and drag the slider. 50% halves the width and the height, which gives a file about a quarter of the pixel count.

What is the difference between resizing and compressing?

Resizing changes the number of pixels. Compressing keeps the pixels but stores them more efficiently. For the smallest file, do both.

What size is an Instagram post?

The common sizes are 1080 × 1080 for square, 1080 × 1350 for portrait and 1080 × 566 for landscape posts, and 1080 × 1920 for stories.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Resizing happens in your browser, so your photos stay on your device.
