Tips and limits
- Keep the original PNGs if you plan to edit them again; WebP at a lower quality is meant as a final delivery format.
- Test the converted file on the site or app where you will use it before replacing every image.
- Older Safari versions cannot write WebP; the page switches to JPG there and says so.
PNG to WebP
PNG files, especially photos and large screenshots, are heavy. Saving them as WebP typically makes them much smaller, and unlike JPG, WebP keeps transparent backgrounds. That makes it a good fit for logos, product cut-outs and interface graphics on a website. This page has WebP preselected, so you only add your PNG files and press the button.
Choose a quality of 80–90% for pictures; the tool also keeps the picture looking clean around edges. Look at the results list to compare sizes. If a PNG is a very small, flat graphic, the saving may be modest. For a format that every old program can open, use PNG to JPG instead, and for even smaller files try the image compressor.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert PNG to WebP?
Add the PNG files, keep WebP selected, choose a quality and press convert. Download the WebP files when they are ready.
Does PNG to WebP keep the transparent background?
Yes. WebP supports transparency, so transparent areas are kept.
How do I convert an image to JPG, PNG or WebP?
Add the image, choose the output format, set the quality if it applies, and press “Convert images”. Then download the result.
What happens to transparent areas when I save as JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the background color you choose, white by default.
Which format is best for photos?
JPG is the most compatible, and WebP is smaller at similar quality when the destination supports it.
