How to Design Your Own Signature

4 min readBy The Adawat team

A good signature is one you can repeat quickly, that others cannot easily copy and that you use the same way every time. Start from your name, simplify it into a few strokes, practise it until it is automatic, and keep it consistent. The signature maker helps by showing your name in many handwriting styles to start from.

One honest point first: a designed signature is a personal mark, not a legal tool. It does not make a contract more valid and it is not a certified electronic signature. The rules that matter come from the document and the authority that asks for it.

Steps

Decide first whether you want a Latin or an Arabic signature, because the font choices differ for each.

  1. 1

    Type your name

Open the signature maker and type your name as you would write it on a form. Use the full name for a formal signature and a short form for everyday use.

  2. 2

    Compare the styles

Look at the styles side by side. Pick one whose letters you can imagine writing in one flowing movement, rather than the most elaborate one.

  3. 3

    Adjust slant and size

A slight slant to the right looks natural for most people. Keep the size moderate so the signature fits on a signature line without shrinking.

  4. 4

Add a simple underline or flourish

One underline or loop gives the signature a recognisable end. Several flourishes become hard to repeat and look different every time you try.

  5. 5

    Practise by hand

Open the drawing tab and trace the design with a finger or a mouse a few times. If you cannot reproduce it comfortably, simplify it.

  6. 6

    Save a transparent PNG

Download the transparent PNG for documents and designs. Keep the original file so you can reuse exactly the same signature.

  7. 7

Place it on a PDF if needed

Press “Use this signature to sign a PDF”, open your document in Sign PDF and place it on the signature line. See the guide to signing a PDF on your phone for the full steps.

What makes a signature hard to copy

Speed and rhythm matter more than decoration. A signature written in one motion has a natural pressure and flow that is hard to imitate, while a slow, carefully drawn one is easy to copy. Choose a design you can write quickly, with a few distinctive features such as a particular loop, a long final stroke or an underline.

What a decorative signature does not do

A signature image is not proof of identity. For contracts, bank forms and government services, many places require a handwritten signature, a qualified electronic signature or a special platform. Rules about electronic signatures differ from country to country. If the document matters, ask the organisation that issued it what it accepts, and do not rely on a picture of a signature alone.

Latin, Arabic or both

Many people keep one signature for official papers and another for casual use. If you sign in Arabic, Ruqaa-based styles are a natural fit, and a Kufi style gives a modern, angular look. If you sign in Latin letters, a script font gives a classic result. Keep to one design for each purpose, so the signatures on your documents stay consistent.

Common problems

  • My name has few style choices

Fonts cover either Latin or Arabic letters. Type the name in the script you want to sign in and the tool shows the fonts that support it.

  • The signature looks too thin when printed

Download the highest-quality PNG and do not scale it up from a small copy. Choose black rather than a pale color.

  • The picture has a white box around it

Make sure you used the downloaded transparent PNG, not a screenshot, and that the document does not add a white background to images.

  • A form rejects a pasted signature

Some forms require a handwritten or a certified electronic signature. Ask the issuer what is accepted.

Frequently asked questions

Is a typed signature legal?

It depends on the country and the document. A typed or designed signature is often accepted for informal use but not for every contract, so check the requirement.

How can I make my signature hard to forge?

Write it quickly in one motion with a few distinctive features, and keep it consistent. Complexity alone does not protect it.

Can I use my signature image in a PDF?

Yes. Download the transparent PNG or send it to the PDF signer, then place it on the signature line. It remains a picture of a signature, not a certified one.
